Hacker's Diary
A rough account of what I did with Emacs recently.
- February 24
- Finally installed the RAM upgrade in the Mac. It's already
feeling improved. (possibly placebo effect)
- February 21
- Since 2015 is turning out to be The Year Of Memory Upgrades Chez
Waider, I took a putty knife and screwdriver to the Mac Mini and
bumped it from 2GB to 8GB. Woo, that made a difference! Mind you,
the drive that flaked out some time back appears to have
permanently flaked out now, and Drobo seem to have upgraded their
dashboard software to a point at which the Drobo unit I have is no
longer detected by it. Classy.
Silver Linings Playbook
was a little slow to get going, but was a whole lot of fun when it
did. Note, every single character in this movie is in some way
disfunctional.
- February 20
- Finally got around to making a start on Sopranos
season 6. Three episodes later and I'm still scratching my head
wondering why this was such compelling and award-winning drama for
so many. It just feels so flat.
- February 16
- Pleasant weekend away in Lisbon marred somewhat by the fact that
I started coming down with something flu-like the night before we
left, and I'm only just starting to recover. Nice enough
place, but I'd probably have appreciated it more in better
health.
- February 10
- Had a remarkably pleasant dealing with Vodafone's
customer service today. The genesis of the dealing was not quite
as impressive: looking for a NAC for an iPhone 4 that I purchased
from Vodafone a couple of years back, their self-service NAC
system insisted it wasn't a Vodafone issue. Customer service guy
(Henry) took my details, confirmed my account, then put through
the NAC request - which turned up a few hours later. Now I just
need to figure out what the people who actually have the phone -
currently in Australia - need to do to pick up the status change;
probably a quick trip to an Apple store or even a phone kiosk will
sort them out.
Doing some hairy reworking of a personal django project, involving
changing a ForeignKey field to a ManyToMany field without actually
using any of that nice schema migration stuff. Managed not to lose
any data, but at the end of the process the code still doesn't
quite work the way I wanted it to, so I'm still missing
something.
- February 4
- I bought a memory upgrade for the Mac a while back. I still
haven't installed it because... I don't have a screwdriver to fit
the case.
