Ski in Andorra. Brilliant! First time for quite a big group. Fergus (knows how to ski!), and some of his friends Louise&Dave, Aisling mmm lovely, Mary. S3 people Brian, DaveM, Donal, Bill, James Hurley, Robbie, Keith, Tony, Colm, ....
Avalanche just before we arrived so we were travelling to Pal. Arinsal was open for the last two days.
I shared a room with robbie. The Hotel was nice, on the hill going up to Arinsal. We went along to thew pubs and nightclubs every evening - hard work! :) The snow caused great fun, snowball fights up and down the hill. Our beginners ski group: Myself, Keith, Aisling, Louise, Mary, Dave, ... ? more ? Affinity for trees? |
Ballroom dancing is fun ... one particular party (Finbar O'Regan's) with dance partner (Chris Dunne's friend) and she's very nice to me, talking on couch is very comfortable but (I find out later) she is attached. Her conscience got the better of her, :( bummer. :) Ahh well. (Oh dear - 1999 - I've forgotten her name :( ) Elaine I think.
Start with scouts in Stillorgan too. Stephen & Christine. (or was this next year?) Move out of Merville road? earlier (& Fionnuala moved in later?) Tracy? earlier in the year >;) Keep Stephen working hard.
Playing advent on VAX in S3.
In Nbg with Chris?Declan?Jim for a week. Erlangen bier fest was on anyway which was good timing. Summer student Nicole was quite good fun.
Trip to Nihon for just a bit more than a week, Adele and Clarkie. mad. |
Falling off a bar backwards onto my head is one of the things I don't remember. I also don't remember being helped/carried to room by Donal & others (found this out more than a year after!) struggle up lift and with chair. What I do know is I was wrecked (woke up on tile floor). I had obviously been sick and I was quite sore the rest of the day - breakfast and bus back to Dublin. OUCH.
However before all this fun was had ... out in a pub the night before for a meal after the trip down. The next day wasn't exactly exciting :). The food was okay - but not all that great - but then party mood was on and quite late everyone graduated downstairs to the snooker room. Next door a mad table-tennis game was had by about 20 of us? Darren breaking one of the bats enthusiastically. In snooker room Alva was playing inTerEstingly, Conor was consuming vodka which he unfortunately gave me some. And some kind? soul donated red wine to me.
Indoor soccer, other S3 things - card playing? Weekends away? Delphi, more. S3 people Darren, Conor, Stephen, Robbie, .... CLub92? |
Find house in Dublin with Stephen. Cycle EVERYWHERE.
First arrival in Dublin with address and bike with two big bags. I ended up getting quite lost and cycling practically to Tallaght before finding Stillorgan.
Start in S3. On Philips GSM BTS OA&M SW (for RBS900) [now used in Lucent's GSM infrastructure] maint, feature, VAX build/test env, Hardware test on ABIS interface to BTS with Heitec testers, ISO9001. Stefano, Jim, Declan, Chris. |
FYP with Richard Conway ... sound guy ... he had myself and Ronan Coleman for projects so I was of course wonderboy. Interesting enough ... made a good start but didn't bring it through at all .. :( Encountered problems with newish C++ compilers whose memory alloc/dealloc wasn't stable which kindof killed any big analkyses. System for Simulation of circuits/filters/algorithims based on residue numbering systems. Might be nice to develop it more? wish wishy

During first year I had encountered the 8 commodores in school ... and played with their basic a bit. Daire had a spectrum at home and I think I saw that only once. Anyway Daire knew a bit of basic and also had a few magazines with programs. Mr Kennedy also had a computer class after school some day of the week. I possibly encountered other computers too, the apples in the library - not much though.
What did John get? and Bill? And Pauline and Mary?
James 10, John 9, Bill 7?, Pauline 5?, Mary 2? When did we get the commodore? Hmmm, not this year I think. I think I got one of those computer game zappers. er ... not quite the same :(
I'd say John got a bike (Mom told me (1999) when we were sneaking all the presents down from Grannys he was crying - bike a big present but Dad attached alot of responsibility with it. And it is alightly questionable how enjoyable cycling in the cold & wet really is.) Hmmmmm. But anyway
Bill? I think this was the year Pauline/?!MAry!? got Rudolph the rocking horse. She was a bit confused and thought it was a rocking reindeer. And Mary? :) Hmmm. A huge yellow teddy-bear???
Friends/class Daire, Stewart, Scouts, ... Adrian Fullam 1A4 is a nice class really ... good collection of us from Walterstown, then lots of kids from town too.
Enemies >;-E John Griffin, some more? not really. Woodworking and Mechanical drawing are scary for a while as I'm subject to bullying by John Griffin (and his cohorts - Ulton Murphy, ..?). One time when we were waiting for woodwork to start they pushed me into the toilets ... but nothing really happened. At home one morning I was miserable and after talking with parents I was happier ... _next_ time HE'd get what was coming to him. But strangely enough after that they weren't as bad - although I was scared/angry even still.
Also still doing music with Miss Jones these years.
Start in secondary school. An adventure for such a small shy little guy as myself.
Going into school by "bus" driven by Mr. Collins. Interesting as himself and Grandad
have been a bit pissed off with each other for years over something.
I think my ?first? class ever was with the new principal Sr. Ann and it was French. She was our class teacher too and class home was in the "Language Lab". I remember vaguely the entrance exam ... interesting ... probably the first seriousish exam I'd encountered. Mr Hurley prepared us a bit for some of the question's we'd not covered yet ... sets, ... more? |

catch games, glass/coal/... fantasy games Daire made up ... different coloured glass would explode after different amounts of time. Rats of Nymph? and novels Daire was making.
Winter Saturdays - holding gates on farm, blocking cattle while scraping mud ... being cold, missing TV!
Scouts/cubs, holidays with cousins, art classes in summer.
Start in school. Mrs O'Donnell from baby-infants through about 3rd class. New school friends: Stewart Meehan, Daire Stockdale, Robert Kelly, ... Michael Foran, Laura, Lillian, A? later Damian O'Rourke, ... strange how little you mixed with ppl 1 year younger/older. John's class: Hugh Verling, Mark Kelly, Gavin Stockdale, ... ? |
Flying ... I had a strange memory of playing in the living room at home and being able to jump and levitate/fly short distances. Could this be related to the time when myself and John stacked cushions against a gas heater causing much black smoke? (don't remember that)
