In evening I come down after settling Kate & crosswording & there has been a "discussion". Fionn is crying. Hugh is sticking up for her. Her Mum heads off upstairs to bed. Various people talk to Fionn & Fionn heads up to her Mum. Hugh tells me his Mom just gets really ratty & says hurtful things then. Later Fionn tells me it's a bit better and she took comments about kids to heart. Foo whew. TV? crosswords? (I've done a good few crosswords from papers lying around) Bed?

In morning?afternoon visit my Granny in Cuskinny with Dad. She's quite alert and knows us though does mention she didn't see her mother at the reunion. Kate sits with her for a bit and we get some photos.

Drive back Cobh to Limerick? Or next day? Fionn's Mum & Dad babysit. Night out restaurant. Texas steak out. I have mehican food. The bank pub ... bit crowded. Talk talk talk. Hardly talk to Fionn all night! Maureen drops us home. Her Brian headed home sickish earlier.

My mum & Dad babysit. Chinese then pub (Rob roy - music on walls) Bottles of heinekin for me. I'm stuffed after chinese - started 5 selection shared then 8 main courses shared. Red wine. See also Brian McElhone briefly.

I get taxi home ... 12:30 I think. Mum asleep. Dad just about. TV on. Mum & Dad tell Kate resisted very much going to sleep. D got read some of the Hobbit ... we've not been reading ... D & Kate have been up late most Christmas nights. I transfer D upstairs to matress on floor (he couldn't sleep with Kate!) Others home soon enough after. Tara and Cheeky Australian red Mike? head to bed. John & Carly and Fionn & I have great fun blowing tunes on 8 singing dolphins. I have do re, John has mi fa, Fionn has so la, Carly has tee do. Fionn's quite busy, Carly and I direct.

Drive 1600ish? 1700? Out Tiperrary road. The right towards Mitchelstown is a good bit further out than I had thought. We do go on smaller roads towards Mitchelstown, gets dark and we pick up a bus behind a car on a twisty section after Hospital but it's grand. In Fermoy left, Fionn directs me on a right to take (actually it is signed to Conna). Then along ... another right and left I think catch up with a lorry. Arrive directly in to Conna ... then not sure, take left then right btween pub & houses. Up steep steep road ... along for a bit then see very small right. Can't see has it tarmac until we drive onto it. Amazingly we meet a car coming other way. (Hmmm ... it occurs to me now(jan82003) that was David & girlfriend? )

We arrive, talk to many people. Noreen & Brid. Jim Morrisey a bit. His kids are there. Francis & Ger & Brendan (heads off to bed). See Robbie & Alan ... music being played for to see Brendan dancing. Eventually get F to have food and D has some too. I have yum red wine. D sad Jim's kids have left. Great fun being pushed by uncles & relations in Brendan's car. Before going have desserts - trifle, black forest gateaux, fruit salad. (Daire & Dad & Fionn & I & Kate). Kate really munches fruit salad to delight of her Granny & Noreen.

Daire gets lift to Ashgrove with his Granny & Grandad. Fionn drives me & Kate. To Immalee. Playing before bed. Hmm ... don't remember but I think Kate was up a bit in night and we were anxious not to wake John & Carly so we were hopping up & down a bit too. Kate into bed with us in early morning. Daire slept downstairs in Carly's play/work room.

F lots of packing I'm slow food drive, no traffic tv, chat, turkey sandwiches & tea. K eats cranberry sauce. Later I settle K to bed. In with her a while. Lots of distractiof. I read. Then take her up, hold her close. I lie onbed, K on top. She falls deep asleep. F gets D to bed. Crossword. Sieblung catan island game. Me Eoghan Fionn Brian. :) I win. Runs away when sees dogs. Lovely sunny day, shortcut jump over wall, diary in palm sitting on rock. Lads out, D first, up&along to car. Then to s3, collect K from creche, F collects her coat&scarf from us.

Read Ds new book. K has fruit. Making Christmas logs. Chicken curry for dinner. F heads shopping. Putting K&D to bed together. Hard bit trying to feed K bottle while reading hobbit. She finishes & wriggles. Cross so we finish up just as Bilbo & Dwarves get boat across black river in Mirkwood. She goes to sleep grand.

F back 2030ish. TV. F makes tea. Food & tidy b4 bed. I shower+shave. Read.

Shop a bit. Goto wise owl bookshop. See nice Irish tree book. Buy it for present for Mum. Kate crawls around shop a bit while we look at kids books. See also furry tiger jigsaw requiring fuzzy logic. Busy w cars & ppl but we're not bothered. Get loads of stuff. One time I go to get garlic leave K&D by milk. AUGH! Trolley gone. Headless chicken mode on. Meet D following me. Whew! D into trolley to unload. Everyone compliments cute kids. Butchers shut, it's 1730. Call into s3, no way phoning Fionn, I'm still paranoid, maybe that integration/testing course was today? Yes. She calls later. Home. Roast chicken + brocolli + baguette. Medievial style. Sticky fingers.

F home, distract puter, F gets kids mostly to bed, I read hobbit. K roaring crying. Somehow I do settle her after a few visits.

F visits Aedin & Sheila. I record/watch Batchelor's Walk & Trigger Happy TV is on after. F home, bed. K up few times, cries, I leap up, find soother, she's ok.

Strangely enuf after asking Miss Molloy about Speech and Drama Daire arrives home with his line! "Listen, that's the sleigh. He's definately gone now!" (shouted!)

Afternoon F off to Sutton with Sheila. D & I pack K into bush baby, head off with secateurs. Walk over to overgrown field then clamber over jungle. Collect pile of potential wreath sticks. Tall weed, standing in groups on the grass, bare, fluffy seeds on top nearly all gone. Then chop brambles off fence in tennis courts.

Home, make bath for sticks, D fills it while I give K bottle. Then pack into car. K sleeps all through Woodies. D riding on front of trolley. Find some wire but no real flower arranging materials. Thwn onto Cornelscourt. Lose K's socks. Slow teller. Home, nearly, K vomits. F home. Sick baby shopping in K fed grapes but sick again bottle b4 bed but sick again after maybe 30min asleep We give her water

I know it's windy today from forecasts - dialup & run my wgetscript and check emails. Yep nice and windy. Turn off PC. Get gear ready & bike out of shed. Phone Fionn then and cycle. Wind mostly with me thankfully. Zoomcycle downhill. On hills in our estate bike feels like it has a buckled wheel or something again. Gears don't do anything nasty for me today though. At S3 I fire bike onto bike-rack on car then drive back home. Pile surf stuff all on car, grab bag of towells and food & coke and head. Well, try to head ... car refuses to turn off alarm-fuel lock. Lock & unlock car with keys and central-lock switch a few times. I lookup security code in palm ... has to be entered with radio switch? Augh! Oh no ... with central locking button? that doesn't work :(. Eventually mysteriously powering down & up again and using keys works. Whew! Traffic a bit busy Leop road. Get full tank of petrol in Deansgrange, tyres all grand at 30psi ... hmmm .. weird!

Get to Salthill ... tide in very high. Park near beach. Cross-shore to the strand, on-shore to the North harbour wall wind (not that there's any much beach-shore with the high tide). Looks quite windy and very very choppy especially right in salthill. Look hard and looks like would need 6.8 alright, not 5. Harnesses etc on 6.8 boom anyway. Gear out of car first and sail together board on. Downhaul I don't quite get right so I have to haul (luckily have downhaul tool) and one part of rope caught under others - free it, haul again etc ... but get it tight anyway. Then change. Brrrrr. Wetsuit in cold shed ... luckily inside was lovely and dry. Now I realise it's DECEMBER! Hmmm .. yeah. Lock up car, coat with all valuables hidden, head out.

Yep - choppy ... wind bowing over full tide all way from sandycove/ringsend. I tack out & in twice. Zoom planing but feel I'm bit overpowered so I'm spilling lots of wind, not hauling back of sail close in (as I don't have enough weight). Bounce steer over/round lots of chop. A bit gusty too, wind drops a little sometimes so glad I do have the big sail. When I'm going about or a couple of times just when I'm going and I luff or wind drops or catch wave wrong I clumpsch into water but top of head stays dry. Head over all way to Dublin's South Harbour wall. Arrive at crescent? swimming & water-volley club house (v white feature on wall). Wow! Tide is almost on top of harbour wall ... only two blocks, about 2 feet above the water. I tack in & out up and land on beach where wall meets land. Chop completely gone in close there ... wind coming and going. Lovely water gently lapping on lovely soft sand. Ahhhh. Lovely. I Pull forward harness line on starboard forward, also shorten lines and raise boom above half-way. Out again ... eek boom too high? Different anyway but grand. Bit past 12 so I head back over ... arrive roughly at Blackrock. Bearing away board speed really REALLY picks up. Flying in & out a bit downwind to get to salthill. Tacks terrible, forget about gybes too. Overpowered? Loads of chop? Anyway.

Land on beach. Unrig sail on stones, wrap up gear, board on top of car. then out of wetsuit. BRRRRRRRR! Move round car till hopefully minimum of people will see my bare arse. Wetsuit off - dry - pants off - dry - pants on. Guh Guh guh guh - jumper on ... that's better. Feet. Tidy up, get coat, call Fionn, head off for Kate. Traffic okay. Kate is happy. Points at stuff and tells me about it *point* "gauhhhh" *point* "gahhhhh". Grabs door handles and points/presses relevant switches to open doors on way out. She's a good grip. When she grabs handle with 2 hands I really have to pull or prise her off. She had 1:30 sleep. Again praised on eating loads of food. Tara says again she _loves_ her sandwich with breakfast. Baby that always cries when I arrive .... sitting not facing me when I come in but STILL cries! Lots of the others wave bye-bye.

Home. Kate cross in car so I stopped & gave her soother. She's happy in car while I unload everything. Windsurf gear around side, rinse wetsuit and hang it up to dry. Then head to get Daire and David 14:15. Traffic fron Sandyford Ind Est onto Balally road backed up - should've gone other way. We're a couple of minutes late. D cries (my theory is he's hungry - doesn't eat enough Wednesdays - longer day for him). He wants to go. David makes sure teacher knows they're gone. Well .. he stands waiting for a while while she talks to someone, eventually I tell her I'm taking them. On way out David runs fast. We keep up but near car Daire falls and is sad again. Dirty hand and one skinned. He's bold though in car ... I've hidden the alphabet computer but they both want spiky dinosaur. D very unhappy when David gets it (Daire had both yesterday). Bold so I tell him no emergency chocolate :'(. In traffic down road I dole out kit-kat and half an apple with my penknife for them then. Kate goes nuts and Daire gives her a piece of his apple.

At home we grab food - leftovers from last night. 2 pancake things for faijitas. Mince stuff, some salad for me, some jalapenos. Start Kate on pineapple. Mop up with bread. Yum ... all of us were hungry. After dinner upstairs and get D changed. I go to take shower, kids very happy playing ... I get distracted and tidy clean clothes and collect wash first. Then shower/shave ... Kate comes over and opens door, makes it draughty. She's happy out looking in and saying something. Much much detangling, brush in/out conditioner on my tangle. Then out, dry, dressed. We put on wash downstairs then go out on walk to deliver letter. Down bottom of hill find the Drive, then numbers, D looks close, we go past and find 43. Back to 37, letter in, finish walk round block. It's fully dark by then. Back home Kate & Daire hungry. D gets petit filou and feeds it to Kate. He heats up Muller rice for himself. He's inclined to leave Kate yelling for food sometimes but is very good & gives her some rice too. I make kindof spagetti carbonara ... with pork chops ... nearly ready when Fionn home. Kate has some spagetti. Fionn not so sure about that mess. Frees Kate ... who's not 100% happy with freedom so into play car between washing machine and basket/chair.

Uohhh ahhh back sore now. Doing lots of messing on PC. Fionn gets K & then D to bed. Reads him his school library book. Poor Poor Peter and Penguins.

Yellow flash on wings, rust-red on face and black and white on head, one browner red on face, Back black with white specks, breast pale. Looks like a pair of Goldfinches. Out front seagulls and rooks maybe. One seagull trying to get food off of rook. Rook not bothered.

Must split diary ... uploading it slow and stalls. 1.28M it is now. Okay that done ... food? More birds, sparrows, more tits. Then tiny guy ... almost definately wren ... quite brown. Over back wall onto dogwood then onto ground. By back wall then comes up under fennel in bed there a bit. Robin on willow and wren goes up & chats with him. Is wren a baby robin??? Then into fuschia next door. Other birds in far away gardens and our Eucalyptus.

Aie! 1:00 sonner than I thought. Grab bike out from under not so much stuff and not so entangled either. Cycle to S3, bike on car and into creche. Slow opening door and surprised to see me. Kate is asleep! Okay - I'll come back later. THEN I realise the watch I have on is an hour forward! Augh! So it's NOT time to collect the lads. I head back home but not much time to do too much. Kate was playing with my watch in bed this morning so I grabbed the other identical one.

Mashed potato for lunch for everyone. D not too hungry. Kate eats loads. Hmmm. .... dunno what we did ... homework, ... mind kids! Later on Kate goes to sleep. Chop lettuice & tomatos to make salad. Make some dressing to put on later. Cook up cucumber (that really needs to be used), also onion, garlic, red pepper, red cabbage, mince, curry powder, tin tomatoes. Lay out circle of pineapple on plate with jalapenos in middle. Mmmmmm. Looks nice. Fajitas great sucess. Fionn gets lift home. Pancakes in for one minute. Daire even loves the stuff ... doesn't notice the veg. After eating two slices of pineapple already. Kate also loves pineapple and the mince. Remains of red wine for F & I. Yum.

Homework, kids to bed, Kate cries lots, puter a bit, read Tintin for Daire. Later Star Wars (episode I) on TV.

sat30 F up w K & D in morn. Phone rings b4 9 - Aedín & double glazing repair man. F visits me, K down for sloep 10ish, then F in shower. D leaves Aedín in. I get up after F goes, K cushions & baby-monitor on. Get breakfast, D reading Tintin by himself very intently. Kitchen tidy, start baking. K up & give her apple to eat, D feeds her petit-filou, then P up (cool big green pyjamas like ER suit) & helps. I make K porridge+peas & P feeds her. Meanwhile 4 apples chop w lemon juice, D picks out seeds for growing trees. Butter & sugar mixed, then D cracks 4 eggs in & I mix, then coconut + flour in. Baking tins greased, oven heated, gloop in tin, apples in nice circle in gloop, last of gloop, more apples, in oven 1135. F back from visiting cousin + new baby in Hollis St.. More baking - muffins (apple+cinnamon) D rough & tumble w P. Bumps head. Cake out 1230, Muffins in, out 1300.

Bottle for K. Head to jumble sale in D's school via dropping P end Brewry Rd for 46A bus. V crowded, I feel shy anxiety, take D, get rid of vodka+buns. Swap D for K, he wants a Garfield cat, pretty worn, hard to hear him. F gets good stuff. Bird box, games. Santa lollipop. Popcorn mixup. Out home. K up bed settles asleep after small cry. Coffee & yummy apple cake. Man comes fix window. Kimmage glazing. D plays Othello & space/alien word game w F.

Pauline comes and babysits. She does finish the rice & savoury mince we all had earlier. more cards! We bring bottle of wine & biscuits to Sheila's place. Grandad, Sheila, Orla, Aedin, Paul, Fionnuala and I. I drink yummy red wine. Get excellent run of cards for long time - from 5 euro up to 8 euros. Miss tea somehow as I still have wine - nice cake & sausage/chips though. Hands not so good but quite interesting. I go down gradually but up a bit near end. Good fun. Finish quarter to one.

Daire home with Derval & other kids. We head off. Drive straight there fine and only one other person in waiting room. Daire has just started playing with a few toys and has gotten out some homework when it is our turn. We head in & meet secretary. Then sit in corridor, Daire carts his bag after him. In to doctor. Kate kindof remembers and gets quite worried. I hold her tight ... needle in slowly, kindof under the skin again. Yeow. She cries lots and this time doesn't stop straight away when I stand. Then we go out, dress Kate again, collect our stuff and head back home.

We drive in to S3 bit after 5. Can see Fionn at work in lab. We leave messages on her phone. Kate asleep in car. D & I collect some giant torey-tops. Look at mushrooms. Meet Flavio and Sinbad. Eventually Fionnuala sees us. Bike into car & we all head home.

Plunch in v cold water a good bit. Plane&in straps a little. Land 12:15. Unrig, pack up, change, food, drive. Library in Deansgrange. D gets same books he saw Friday. Biff&Boff Boxing and Tintin wkich we have @ home or somewhsre. K in car seat first. Sleepy but awake. I get some adult books Manouf, Sarah Kavanagh, translated Arabic short stories. D gets me. He can't play as small kids are playing in the house. We read books. K crawls round. Join, fill in card, check out books, home.

K sleeps a bit in car seat. Go through Ds schoolbooks with him. TV. I cook salmon broc potato mush+leek+paprika+garlic dinner. Fionn home after 6, after D&K fed. cup of tea, D tv, Kate crawls round places getting into things, Very happy with herself.

F gets K ready for bed. D to bed. K doesn't take bottle much. Cries in bed unless stay in room. Judge Dredd TV Finish book late night.

I mind K while others go into adult storytelling workshop. We look at exhibits and go up to Eileen Gray ... friendly usher shows us some stuff. Final look at last story - little red riding hood - meet others.

Park irish life ctr, wander through huge crowds to Easons, wander back. 101 Talbot St. Restaurant. Looks like same menu as when I was there ages ago. Nice food - mackrel pate then polenta/cheese/... Some nice chianti.

Dave's pound shop lovely stuff. Viking figures, alarm clocks, shiny things. Then Ashgrove. Town & country looking autumn lovely. Pass dogs & horses. Meet Mum & Dad & Buzz & then Sam. Mum is flower arranging. D sets to work with trolley moving straw & flower offcuts. K sleeps whole time. Talk w Dad about what I'm doing. Mum starts dinner, D finding games in room.

Then into Cobh again, the Spires. Meet Pat Hurley & Mary & Tom (just younger than Kate, 8 mts). Shoes off. Tea. K slips around wooden floor. Backs into things wriggling on tummy. Mary is working 3days/week in Motorola. Pat Kickboxes/taekwondo/karate & his friend has started club in Cork.

Collect Mary. K w soother + alphabet computer + Mary in back. In ashgrove D is in tractor. He has chopped carrots for Granny b4 heading out. Ready dinner for kids. Fionn feeds Kate. She is hungry! D & Grandad in. Chicken stew & potato. Photos of old dogs shep, puppy shep, buzz as puppy, us as kids. D finds felt. Bill & Pauline arrive. Hugs etc.. We set Kate to bed & I stay with her.

Slow turning right onto B road. Joining traffic like us. Then hear on rabio cause - roadworks @ Rathcoole just cleared. ALSO 4 mile tailback into Blessington, I wonder why! Meet tailback. Slow a bit. They said she was good - they held her all the time again but she didn't cry at all this time. She didn't seem sleepy but did seem tired (if y'know wbat I mean) but she settled okay for me. She's asleep now.

Home and Kate to bed ... she's unsettled but does go to sleep after a bit. We get some tidying done, D dresses in fireman sam outfit.

Kate up and D picks recipie - homemade burgers. D chops onion until he cries. Then puts in egg, flour, some pumpkin. Kate eats some yoghurt, then sweetcorn, helped by Daire & I. We grill and heat potatos and microwave beans and sweetcorn. Wash up & tidy a bit. D hoovers kitchen & living room & hall. Needed doing! Kate was finding morsels of food everywhere (bits of popcorn, crispie buns, ... from halloween). Then we deliver colouring competition drawing. Kate in buggy and she falls asleep. Get a couple of things in shop. Walk over to bonfire and meet Paddy. D heads to play with them but they run away from him. I bring Kate to bed and D appears back without the gang. Conor is away.

1600 Kate gets up and has bottle. Then cappuchino for me, drinking chocolate for Daire and choc bread for all of us. turn on TV.

D fed, Kate up & fed, Fionn gets D tigered up, brings him to party. Kate & I take a walk on green, look at rubbish, bonfire pile, tennis courts. We find blackberries and have some. Then in home after Fionn back. I cook pumpkin in many different ways!

He says I will get or write the music for it. 17:30 Drive Dun Laoighre, park, rig up. D gets in boat & up foresail. Then at water D takes trailer and I put rudder down, dropkeel down, sails up. Then D minds boat (tied up alongside) and I bring trailer up. Wind S - SW ish. We run or broad reach out of harbour then tack up towards 40 foot/Sandycove. Pass near orange mark "pier" V. D swaps sides and releases/pulls his rope very well. At 19:00 we turn around and run back. Boom/mainsail inclined to gybe. D takes tiller and I bail ... while keeping a few fingers on tiller. D then bails too and plays with bailer in water. Avoid fishermen final round of wall then one long tack and near slip luff up and I get forward & out good time. Tie up. D tries to lift out dropkeel but it's too tall & awkward. I help, D out and fetches trailer. I down sails.

Onto trailer then I derig and tidy everything while D plays paddling in water and up & down slip. Kid comes over asks 100 questions. I answer them all. Ham sandwiches+juice+crisps. Yum sea chowder for F&I. More sandwiches for me. Lasagne+sandwiches+... for K. Others join us for coffee. They look tired! After we walk, watch dinghys being launched. Loads of sailing going on. Playground. Then car, eat pear for D, then he climbes over dug ground. Orange for F, club orange for me. Pear for Kate too. She munches it enthusiastically. Drive all way to Cork. Just b4 1st roundabout petrol + fat frog + heat bottle w hot water + cappuchino for Fionn. Then follow signs for Lim, directs all way E along S ring road. Fionn encouragos left & quite messy. Douglas somewhere. Eventually find ourselves. Fast enough to Limerick. 7:30ish. K happy to escape car. Sit on floor wave hands. I give her lettuce on plate then bread. I make loads of ham/ham + salad/egg + cheese sandwiches. I think too much but all gone. D eats 7! Tea. K sits in chair has egg, cheese bread.

A bit more install of cygwin and XFree86. Install and mount and try to run over nfs network (with malconfigured nfs on PCs isn't good. Interesting compiler/types thing in work. Fix and write tests with Peter and others.

Back home at 19:00. Draw picture with Daire (lonely mountain & Dragon). Start reading hobbit again! Kate settled by Fionn ... once my voice reading Tolkien stops she goes quiet. I get trailer down by lowering one back wheel, tie it, lower other so tied wheel nicely meets ground. Setup ropes to attach and hold front and back to maybe make it easier to take her down. Then Bill holds stern rope, I lower front of boat to John. Go down to John, front of boat on ground. Then Bill holds while John gets rid of stick holding stern up. Then Bill lowers. Lovely. Carley, Fionn, others watching. 5 mins to actually lower her. Very satisfying. Theory that Bill & John came just for the fun! Carry boat onto trailer. Tie her on, much cleaning.

Daire comes back eventually wearing foxglove flower on each finger. Were a bit worried. He went up through fields, visited Rings and their children. Visited silage cutting machines. Visited Frances. Jumped in many puddles. Then untie boat, hose down as cows come in for milking. D helps rub her clean with cloth. D loves the gushes of water and plays bringing hoses around corner to put out fires. Disappointed we can't put hoses on again. Tie up boat.

Tea. Attach lights to trailer. Attach mast etc.. to roof rack. Drive back to Dublin, non-stop 8:30 - 00:30. Traffic okay 60mph-70. Some slower traffic 40mph truck for miles before Kildare. Some rain all way through journey.

Drive to Clonskeagh to mosque for dinner. Yummy rice & salads. Then I also eat loads of D's chicken and some of his chips to finish everything off. Kate just wakes when we're nearly leaving. Much tastier & less spensive than yesterday.

Woodies annuals John & Carley & Bill D brings cars outside. I draw with stone road & houses & more road & parking spaces & ....... airport. John & then Bill play lots boisterously with Daire. Guacamoley + spicey chips. D gets glass of milk. Spicy chicken + tamari nut salad, fionn fresh bread from shop. Various people mind Kate. Emma "Daiwa!" shouting over wall. D says she's not his gf but that Lauren is to teasing uncles.

Kate bed, Fionn to soccer. Other baby screams on baby monitor, I switch channels. I have bike out from shed and start fixing my front brake ... but ... Kate is awake and cries a bit and then gets quite cross. Try guitar .... listen for a bit but no way. Our room is very orange/warm with setting sun shining from outside. Pick her up after a bit & go down to get D & get him to bed. Still talking to Conor over wall, Assumpta just there before me so both lads come to bed okay. Kate a bit happy on D's bed while we dress him & do teeth. Not happy then at story ... I leave her in cot, read D story, say goodnight (as usual multiple languages & night sayings - "Goodnight, sleep tight & don't let the bed bugs bite." "Ciao ciao", "Sweet dreams", "See you in the morning" and "Give us a shout if you need us, okay?" ) Then pick up Kate & bring her downstairs. She's okay but cross if I'm not walking. We pick up some stuff in kitchen and go outside. I lay her in long grass and she's amasingly quiet and smiling. Fionn comes home & I wait and show her quiet baby in grass. Then inside, chat Fionn, then I hummm humm humm "I er ah um?" or something like that and oscillate Kate ?in front of tv? She starts going her baby grrrrr ahhhhh grrrrr noises then tirder, eyes closing and eventually little snores as she's leaning right over my arm. I humm lots more then bring her up to bed. I hold her ready then into bed, hold her with sheet, keep humming. Then keep humming in darkened room and tidy the whole place. Swimming gear scattered, nappies, clothes .... Fionnuala has a shower. I'm still humming when she emerges but nearly finished.

Then doiwnstairs and I tidy kitchen and wash dishes and unload dishwasher. Fionnuala irons. some late tv? Kate cries twice but back to sleep after just a few cries.

bed ... ungg sleepy but then wake up and ... aherm then after limbs locked and .... can't sleep !?!?!? strange toilet ... eventually sleep

Pack up into car to town, drive round pearse st/quays, behind back of Capel st. Then D & I check Kate's nappy on side of road. It's clean but she's cross when back into chair. She cries ... we goto temple bar car park and she falls asleep as we're driving in. We park and then wander out. Sit on things, walk, make way to temple bar food market. Buy waffles - strawberry for Daire and chocolate for me. Munch then on footpath and meet Alain.

Then walk/wander on ... play for while in front of central bank. D climbs on blocks and jumps. Climbs along railings and through hoops. Then back to temple bar square. Fionnuala phoses on way.

We meet and pause for a bit. She's uncertain, I say go to restaurant, D cross "I don't want to" and he's been doing that a bit these days so I lose head and pack everyone into car.

Mood improves and we park in Rathfarnham castle. Fionn feeds Kate. I look at tea rooms. We go in happy and get lovely food ... bit spensive though 24 euro for 2 dinner + hang sandwich + tea.

In work first check mail. New rg/iad proj Still not offically going but worked on. NP Complete people were in Saturday. Mtg, then rest of day sh scripting arguing with vxworks process to automate ping test. By end of day Manuel is distracted by Scotty & I leave leaving script running test automatically (but not checking it, or checking for build) 17:50.

D visiting Conor. F gets him after a bit. Her tummy is sore. My liver cassorole isn't that nice. Cabbage doesn't work. Carqots/onion nice & liver in sandwich with milk nice later. Conor & D play basketball with K holding washing basket. Bit scary/surprising for Kate. She likes it though. I play guitar. Boys go on to play with cars till I set them to bed/home 20:10. Fionn says K was in chair playing knock the 4 beakers off earlier, cheered on by D.

Tv/book. Kate doesn't settle @ first. Later cries & gets up. Breastmilk sleep. Phone home Cobh.

Monday. Back to work. All team are very busy preparing for demo. They were working weekend. Intel project still not started and seems a bit doubtful. Sheila talks to me and priority this week is NP-Complete demo. Next week Intel drivers.

back home, Fionn has made fry. I hold K while taking wsurf gear from car. K sleeps. Sun comes out & stays. Clean sand off car. D&Conor play outside with me. Then on green a bit. Stan comes with Emma and then all back in nextdoor. Meanwhile we're qardening, uproot stump outside front door, F takes up some heathers. K wakes & is squggly. Much digging & I make rock stream/path from front door. Needs a clean. After kids in bed I plant the heathers.

D with me on bus. Sants, Placa Espanya. Shout, off at Terminal A then oops. Walk all way down moving way to metro, walk back. Goto terminal B, checkin, go towards gates, have coffee/icecream/beer. F goes shop, then anxious brisk run thru passport check & onto plane after fast nappy change. Drive weather storm, K v cross, nappy.

Walk down many escalators. Back on metro. Food in Fresco acrosj road for all of us? Or day b4? or tapa tapa tapas?

Brakes & everything else back on bike. Trip round block. I cook fish & potatoes (mished) & cabbage+chillie+wr sauce+mixveg. D film, the wind in the willows with humans as animals/suns/clocks/... Michael Palin is sun. I see bits.

Fionn goes to shop. Kate in pouch cross. Take in clothes then TV off. Big walk. S through our estate. Then through back waste yard to gallops path. Kids soldiering, biking ramp, with rope. D climbs on lots of rocks for rests. Travels back in buggy basket to top of path. Kate wakes half way & is reasonably happy. In home. Grab Kate & up to loo. She laughs at me!

F home a bit after us. It's 6. Cook D noodles. He starts tea with bread & ribena. Kate drinks lots of bottle 5oz. F & I have tea with D then. Kate in my arms looking very hungry/excited. I feed her yellow stuff. She has a good bit.

Guitar. F brings D up for bath. Recorder. TV that 70's show. I get D to bed after long bath. F gets Kate. Then I buzz/hum & do diary & K heads off to sleep.

Bike gradually back together. Security light takes 2hrs to get up. F starts, I finish. D bath. I do lots of bike, clean back wheel cogs/axel. Axel V tight to unbolt. Dirt. Then outside till late, 12. Adjust rear gears & front gears by raising & shiftin & bending! 1st time in 3yrs to have all gears?

Lamb knuckles for dinner, I put on rice and potatoes. We start eating before 2. I bring D to party before 3. Long way out to Bray. Back at home Fionn's Mum&Dqad & Aedin are gone. We go to woodies. It's very windy, sunshine bright and then hail/rain lashing down. We shop for plants in rain outdoors a bit. Lawnmower, compost.

We all go and collect Daire. Fionnuala goes in to get him. Kate cries & I take her out of seat just before they get back. Film/TV then bed.

Up early. We all go shopping to Stillorgan. Kate & I try shoes on Daire, we meet Rachel from creche. Groceries and butcher. We forget all but one shopping bag, Fionnuala gets a box. Salmon steaks for dinner.

Fionn's Mum & Dad arrive 7/8ish. Garlic bread and salad-cheese-sausage sandwiches. Tea. Out to Little Pisa. Tasty dinner, lots of wine flowing. John Cunningham, Archie & Tom? Martin, Deirdre? After back to Martin's house. Water for me. At home I eat something and drink water, unload dishwasher, collapse on couch. Fionnuala calls me 6/7 in morning after Kate feeds. Urgh.

8/9 I collect Niamh from creche. She babysits. Drive to Ranelagh. I drink bulmers. Meliosa. I go back to car to get mobile and also to visit banklink. Dave Murrels, Colm/Linda name problems, Wulf Rachel, Fergus. Rachel finishes night with something looking like black russian. Wulf quite drunk ... he goes & gets me a last Bulmers.

Sunny but a little bit of a chill. We pass slow traffic. Check mails, do diary, start slowly in work. Still doing proposal for new project. For Intel ixp425 IAD board. Much creative imagination used in putting together work plans and stuff. Loads of estimates this day.

Collect car from after service. Cycle over. LOADS of traffic. New hitch on car, needs new tyres but Fionn wants car tomorrow. Says radio bulb is gone .. last time 12V supply. I would love to be able to get behind dash and try fix it self. Driving back get stuck for a bit among many cars. Should've dumped car in Sandyford Ind Est & cycled.

Home. Fionn feeding Kater. D watching TV. Fionn gets ready for soccer and heads. Kate is a bit cross. While I make some sandwiches for D & I she sits in bouncy chair with lots of plastic things. At end she gets cross again. We give her soother and in sitting room she falls asleep quite quickly. Superman. Nationwide. D especially likes the garden-shed pub. He wants us to be builders when we grow up a little bit more.

D gets dressed for bed downstairs. TV off 8:00. Kate wakes after we've brushed teeth. I hold her and D picks a very short 3 teddy bears christmas story. HEa reads a bit more other books for teds as usual. Kate very cross and it's a bit soon but eventually I heat her bottle. She drinks lots and a biut nosily in rocking chair. Then we head upstairs. She slows down and stops. Fionn comes home and Kate goes into cot. I bumble and tie her cot-playboard into cot and she watches that and falls asleep shortly.

I mind Daire an Kate for a bit. Kate is asleep in buggy. Unload windsurf equipment (D helps). Then D wants to visit Conor but he has visitors so himself and myself get picnic things. HE has a bite of a cracker and some ribena. I have a full sandwich and coleslaw and his crackers. A friendly dog comes to look longingly for food. Conor comes over too and has some apple juice. Kate asleep in chair on grass. Then we search the whole house "low and high" (Daire). For 1. inflatable goalposts 2. penguin book. We find pump for goalposts, goalposts box, bits of golf set, vital part of ambulance for holding wheels on, Mr Crooked Crook library book. In searching we turn soafa upside down and this turns into a cave when other armchairs and all cushions piled around. Fionnuala finds book and knows where goalposts are in laundry basket. Lisa collects Conor for his lunch and we wrap books and pack carrot cake with ice and freezer bag and bubble wrap for storage in car. Fionnuala heads to christening of baby Holly (Andrea/Joey/Emily's baby).

D plays dinosaur cave, then gets tools and repairs inside and on roof. I manage to slowly tidy up kitchen, hall, upstairs. Kate a bit cross, I carry her lots. We make her a bottle for later but soon she isn't happy and we give her some. We sort clothes for wash and put bright colours piled on top of Kate. Kate likes pinapple to suck! eek! D eats lots of pineapple and ham for tea.

Ben calls up. Noodles and tea and brown bread and cheese for all of us. Kate drinks about 2oz from bottle this time and falls fast asleep. Up to bed for about 15 mins. Ben a bit wrecked :) D quite chatty and plays loads. After Kate comes down again Fionnuala arrives home. Ben drops in boom and heads away. Kate & Fionnuala go up to bedroom and Kate has a long feed and falls asleep. Fionnuala does too! I run bath for D and he has a long bath. I tidy sitting room furniture and hang up washed clothes. Then D very cooperative when we wash his hair. He gets out after another play and dry/talc/pyjamas/teeth/bedtime story with 4 teddies. Very chatty before settling down .... to have loads of chat with teddies!

When leaving we give Ben a call and arrange to meet up later on in Dun Laoighre. We head there and park and walk to Red Onion cafe. Yup pancakes for Daire, pancakes + fry for me, veggie croque monsieur for Fionnuala. Kate has soother first for a bit. Daire cuts up lots of his pancakes by himself. Doesn't loke smoke smell from smoking section. Very happy baby after a bit. Lots of smiles when Fionnuala goes to loo.

We walk and look at boats/yachts. Very windy. Straight offshore. Watch mirror going out training with motor boat behind. A good few ruffians around. We watch the ferry reversing in to dock and unloading some traffic. Then I head onto marina and meet Ben. D can't go as he has no life-jacket. Fionnuala and kids wait in marina office. We arrange to meet Ben later at our house for some dinner.

Home, D visits Conor for a bit, their visitors are away for a bit and Stan is minding kids. I make onion mayonnaise and coleslaw (VERY oniony!) Fionnuala makes yummy thai soup. We snack around 6. Kate goes asleep and D heads to bed after Brady Bunch movie. He comes down to say goodnight to Ben 9ish. Boom bashing. Arrange to meet up tomorrow for windsurf in Dun Laoighre.

I do some with James & Mark but they do loads later. DID reconfig. Fpl fixing. In morning I mess much with xml and break by writing code to make virtual functions less mysterious. #stringification in macros and ##concatenation handy. Fun dumping stack, searching it for code addressee and passing that to nm and awk to show where stack is. In work we get organised in evening. James & I configure 8 ports & get our about 10 tests working again. James has mail from David Nix which is close to what I did only I had portid 0-7 and 8 ports on NPFPP which was wrong. Fix niggly fpl problems which cause sim to just hang. Missing Dids or fpl mis-classifying.

bowl of pasta goo 5 days old for me. I nuke it in microwave. With leftover wine. Yum. D in Conors till 7:15! Had pizza. I bring him to bed. Fionn phone. On bed reading book with happy play Kate.

D & I call to Conor. We kick ball on green a little thsn go exploring alot. D leads. Abit pushy. Some big kids drinking cider. F&K find us. More exploring rock/gorse islands. In to our house after hour. Water guns. Assumpta visits. Toystory jigsaw b4 bed.

Ruth & Gordon arrive and we drive a bit circuitously via Dundrum then back to N11. Meet Sheila & Michelle & Cathy & Owen in National Art Gallery. Impressionists exhibition. D goes with Sheila & O & C to playground. Kate out of buggy. I walk around with her, she's happy at first but gets more squggly. Eventually F& I finp a box and we sit & feed her. After I take her & sit in nice alcoves & windows. Meet with Fionn & we go into quiet galleries for another feed.

Meet others. Going for lunch. Going ... Going ... Still talking. D & I get impatient & go to restaurant. Ruth & Gordon follow. Others head. We don't get food for F then huge Q appears just as she comes but D's meal is enough for 2.

To Skerries. Boat. Ruffian 23. Sails & engine & one eyed cat back @ his home. Wind & white horses. Walk in Skerries harbour then. Fishing boats & trucks. Seals & seagulls. F & K hide in suntrap. Into pub for loo, then restaurant for food. Mussles & noodle fish bowl. Glass of wine. Chicken nuggets & chips for D. Change nappy. K v good but squggles at end.

Home. Cappuchinos. Talk until 1amish. Bed. Too much stimulants for me. Awake thinking boat allsorts for ages unaware what time is.

Evenings Kate is unsettled. Happy if we hold her & walk around. Doesn't easily fall asleep if rocked in rocking chair anymore. Kate & I have twice big argument over trying to feed her bottle. Especially wed when F goes to residents assoc mtg. Kate wins. Fionn gives her successfully bottle later.

Fionnuala's gone shopping and Kate is quite cross. Me & D take her for a walk. Well, we took her out front. Then went further and ended up going round the block. We put her in buggy (putting buggy together while holding cross baby!). HEad out for a walk. We cross grass and D is disappointed we can't get onto building site. We carry buggy over thorns and go to playground. Surrounded by high locked fences ... but D can get under the gate! He plays pirate ship & sharks & crocodiles. I get cold, we spend a good 40mins there. Then D gets crisps, we go through the school, over a small fence and out through Fionn's old school. Back home Fionn's still not back ... I change Kate's nappy ... thinking maybe it's a mistake then Fionn comes home. Pack up stuff in bags. Tea.

Drive from Limerick to Dublin start 8:30 (D in pyjamas), get home just after 11. Unpack car, D gives tight hug as he goes to bed. Fionnuala manages Kate. Then we unpack and tidy and grab creamed rice and peaches for food.

Back home food, windsurf to Dun Laoighre. Two wsurfers out already. One has difficulties going up wind, other swims out to help and sail sail back. Meet guy I think I met before ... telling me how he'd a fight with his wsurf instructor before & .... :-7. Very VERY very gusty & difficult. 6.8m sail. Goes from dead calm to F7 in all gusts. Directly off shore too. tide in. Back by 6 off water. Takes at least 40 mins to do whole pack up and change.

King Caratacus song is too catchy! Humming it all day. I slowly debug way through signal handling for sockets program. I find that both child and parent go into signal handler, this explains all the seemingly strange happenings. (There was a Quit y/n prompt. If y then socket deleted. Then other thread goes in prompts and usually segmentation fault. )

Just after 12 I head back home (cycle-cycle-pant) and meet Fionnuala's Grandad. Chat a little then eat scraps from fridge. Fionn & Kate & Grandad walk to collect Daire. I cook chicken Fionnuala's breaded. Open back door wide to leave in sun. Finish my lunch, read some newspaper, clip dead wood off mint in garden and admire weather. When they come back I'm mostly finished. Help Fionnuala set table. She makes sandwiches and tea and we all sit together, I hold Kate as she woke up.

Phone Mum at home, talk to Mary too. She's off on field trip to Antrim after Easter. About 30 calves, a pair of twins. Daffodils well finished. No Disco on TV and figuring out guitar chords at same time. Up late (till 12, then talk & mmmmhmmmm in bed).

Park near Merrion Square and go into crowds of people. Funfair on, D likes Samba soccer. Back to car & home.

pizza & sweetcorn after 2ish. Pack into car. Dun Laoighre walk piers. Cycles loads, to cafe mocha. Stuffed food. K sleeps whole time. Home D sleep, wakes & helps draw pic of lonely mountain. Up late with Kate last night, 2:30. Sleep in till after 9! :) Fionn had gotten up & breakfasted with D & K. I get bkfst & fionn makes us cappuchinos & hot choc. Wind looks nice, sunny out but cold. Fionn encourages me to head windsurfing so weather check N/NW 3-5. Decided to go bit late really but all pack in car quick. D helps with masts & booms, then plays in car. But he blows horn lots & I haul hih out too quick & he cries :'(. He's impatient for Aedín to come 11:15 and bring him to cinema. I say bye & drlve.

Traffic fine. Arriving into Dun L I can see wind on water. I'm first surfer there, had expected others. Patrick arrives shortly after tho. He's uncertain what equip to rig. I put Ben's harness lines on boom including new rope & rig up. Tide is v high. Out 11:50, must come back in 13:00. Wind is tight onto wall & it's trickey to stay upwind enough to stay away from rocks. Planing in gusts, fun, bit wavy. Harness lines v long so I come in, untie knot(with stone/teeth), back out with almost too short lines this time. Planing less, wind dropping. Good gust just before 1 & then head in.

Other guy & Patrick just going out. 4 ppl rigging up for lessons. Empty fat wallet & pump on tide line. Some chat. Fast derig & gear in car & board on top (realise can hold board safely on with strap going around back of car). No towel! Oops. Dress. Eat kitkat. Drive home, bit of traffic on way. Can't see Fionn inside. Fast unpack car with new Garbage song up on radio.

Aedín brings D back. Fionn cooked pasta dinner. D stuffed with sweets eats reluctantly. Everyone piles in car & drive after Stan& family to Westwood. Kate & I park car, D & F head in for swim tryout. Nose into ww, new coffee shop. Walk with K in carseat to banklink.

Everyone has slush puppies. Me & F have juices (beetroot+apple+ginger). Then we walk in thru hole in wall. Along in strip of woods between Microsoft & new motorway. D leading. Windy by edge. F doesn't like D disodeying & wandering too far. We see where motorway has eaten end of orchard/gardens where old woods and pond once were. Blocked at new buildings - lots 180° of building. Then round front of hospital. D rests in gazebo. Back via S3 to car.

Snack crackers, ham sandwich. Ant hunt. Denis the Menace film. D to bed. F deliver something to Martin. Kate restless overtired but won't settle. Fionn gets her to bed.

Cycle home. Quick dinner. Colcect D. RDS boatshow.

Daire's birthday today. D to creche with buns in car. Miserable wind rain. Party plans. Phone, wait to find out if forms for Kate ready b4 12ish to town rush, park 12:31 miss office open. 3 tired ppl when I get home. I get food for D & me. D cracks 4th egg perfectly & lifts soaked french bread into pan. We both eat a big mound. Fionn comes down & gets sandwich. Making horse carriages on tv. Then Kate sleeps while Bilbo goes through Mirkwood until he finds the dwarves all wrapped by giant spiders. Fix bulb in kitchen look at cursed noisy phone line again with no joy.

Shower sex unexpected & ohh lovely & mmm. Daire busy play & tv. Kate asleep. Then tummy tubby bath for Kate with all of us attending. She likes it lots.

Escape Bray. In small 6ppl room with stained glass. D has difficulty finding something he likes the sound of. Waitress takes orders & D orders juice very pleased. Lovely food. Daire eats lots picking way round broccoli & onion in his potato & broccoli pastry pie. I have potato cakes. D & I swap chairs as he is next to broken table. Then D & F & I swap chairs, Kate feeds. Then D gets cheesecake, a huge slice, everyone helps. Fionn's Dad pays, I have to chase him but not possible to dissuade.

On way home we get petrol, pump car tyres, go through automatic car wash. Then garden centre. Kate sleeps in buggy. D & I play on see-saw, slide, swings. Then traffic too nasty & we abort effort to look at schools. Call to Martin's house to collect chairs.

Bilbo gets to Beorn's house. Assumpta calls for milk. I fix my biks after 1 failure with big patch & duct tape. 2 "burst" holes cover with 1 little patch. Very windy warm out. More surprising & fantastic sex with both kids asleep. In fact sex seems to put Kate sound asleep.

Also Rachel visits S3 collecting last something and Fionnuala comes with Daire and Kate and bike reck. Bike rack probably upside down but bike gets on & goes home ok. KEn & Ronan come out to visit Fionn & family.

Phone Fionn to see how she is. Joey & Derval & David all visit. I walk home and David & Daire are having beans & fish fingers. Midwives called 11:30, come 12:30. Contractions get longer & more painful. I & midwife massage & press F's back & put hot towel over it. Christy Moore on for distraction. At 3 baby comes & lies under F. F sits back on me & holds baby. She's a girl. F cuts cord & D comes up for a hug & heads down quickly. One midwife heads. We transfer to bed after placenta (big!) comes. F is quite well.
