S3 Christmas party - driving trip North with Kieran, Fionnuala and Dave? Travel along lakeside.
Fionnuala's jeans rip :-O when clambering out of an old tower. We clamber up a steep face, view (& road) at top and pedestal? to stand on. Go through deserted border post - weird structure around it.
Fionnuala share's a room with Bronagh and I with ...?
In Cobh Hugh was around and I met up with him and we went clambering over the Comeraghs. Good fun! Quite different from the summer. He showed me ?Crotty's? hole. neat! We climbed up from underneath after passing by the top, My leg felt the walk a bit as it was cold - ice around - got to car when darkness descending, ... warmed with misc stuff we'd brought. . Christmas was okay - quiet but not much going on - missed Fionnuala a bit. Then Fionnuala called from Dublin and came down to Cobh for a few days. THAT was nice. :) I took her walking down the back of the Island and around through the woods to the old signalling tower near East ferry climbing a tree along the way. We held hands and hugged along our walk and in Johnny's fields we had our first kiss. Back lateish home to tea. Next day we went walking in Cobh ... visited near the Scout hall by the sea and admired view :). Met Dennis and ? and ? and went to the ... to have a drink with them. Interesting - for them too! :) |
Anyway, fun & tumbles too, and visits late at night hopping over the wall of Mt Anville ( 1999 - Feb - saw his skeleton! - the Horse - in Kildare in the National Stud)
Back to work for me with my small cast after a week ... or sooner? Dave, Kieran (and Paul?) gave me lifts to and from S3. A wee bit awkward to travel to canteen and back (and impossible with a mug!)
Played pitch 'n putt in Howth with the gang ... only put my full weight down on my leg once. OUCH! Lucia held me up but it was SORE! Dinner in restaurant after and then back to Karen's house for Formula 1 and party. Following weeks I played pitch 'n putt about twice more out past Stepaside when the lads were going. It got a bit easier to put some weight on the leg.
Remember one night out in the Olympia with my cast! With Fionnuala, there was jazz upstairs, other stuff.

At the end of the week I had a day-visit to the Hospital for checkup, they left the huge cast on. Dad came up and brought me to hospital and down to Cobh afterwards for the next three weeks.
softball, scouts, golf and cycling everywhere in the Summer. Got Toyota in May/June?
Pitch 'n Putt up top of Stepaside in the late morning. S3 bbq in afternoon. Rush off from PnP as I'm playing football. Meet loads - hi Conor - Lucia - Fionnuala then ******** CRACK *********** ouch! broke my leg. but Fionnuala was back from Nurnberg so I guess this is the start of when we really started to get to know one-another. she came with me in the ambulance down the road to the hospital. at this stage I was a bit in love both with Lucia & Fionnuala so when Lucia and Paul (Brady) were finally together I was a bit ... torn? |
Have gona rock-climbing with Hughin Dalkey Quarry mostly a few times. Hugh's looking for a job in Dublin for part of his course. Working in CAD. Not quite perfect ... but closeish. Went to a good few parties, went with Hugh to one of Julie's where there were some people quite interested in Julie's younger sister. Hmmmm. _That_ was interesting .. got quite drunk .. BBQ outside.
Donegal weekend in Bunbeg.
First day after Irish breakfast we climb up Errigal, up is normal enough, double peaked top interesting. Dave G and myself headed down the scree of rocks. Very different. Scree kindof moved with us. We had kindof had raced up to the top (not quite as per Rune and Darren the next ..day? apparently!). Then down and around the side of the mountain, onto the road and hike back to the cars to meet the others. Fiona's back got sore right at the start :(. She went back to the cars. Back to hostel, explored a bit, some of us went for a swim ... myself & Dave again I think, maybe not, ... was I the only fool swimming? Found a bit of deserted beach ... interesting inlets etc. COLD! In the evening out to restaurant, pub, disco.
Morning big brekkie (as before) watching donkeys, peacocks & ducks in the Lakeside center. Muckish mountain looks strange as we drive up it, really chopped off at the top. Fiona stays down, Joanne suffers a bit from the night before & breakfast on the way up but comes on up anyway after a pause. Steep enough climb ... climbers spread out a bit. The top is a MAD place. Difficult to walk ... rocks strewn all over the top. Weird. We walk over to the kindof midpoint cairn, have lunch and walk on forward and down the side closest there. Interesting going down again and around mountain to play around on mounds a bit and leave a St. Brigits cross on a car.
Later on a gang of us, including Darren (seaweed fight) head in swimming in the REAL sea. COLD cold but nice.
Saturday. We got a boat out to the island and wandered around. A couple of laywers stayed with the beach. The rest of us trekked off to the end by road. Then up the steep climb. After a pause for people to catch up myself and Lucia headed on up the hill and the others stuck with the altitude they'd gained. got to the top ... which wasn't much further, ... explained "wuss" to Lucia :) We walked into fog making things interesting, ... followed a curve down the hill meeting up with Walter. The hill ran the length of the island and at the far end we meet the others close to the top of cliffs ... head down through sheepy fields to harbour & boat. Brief beach wander and pub visit before ferry.
Sunday. My birthday incidentially. 23. We head out to Croagh Patrick, Lucia has limited time as she wants to catch the bus so after walking with her for a while I really leg it after agreeing strict turnaround time. the rest of the group catches up with Lucia and they picnic on top of plateau. Meantime I boot walk fast along the flatish rocky path section and then find brutally hard going up the big loose rocks. All the way up at that pace = about 1 hour. OW! Anyway reach the top absolutely wrecked. there is about 30/60 secs to enjoy scenery before cloud just touches down. Nice view of harbour. After about 3 mins time to head down (slightly behind schedule) I head off over the side avoiding the nasty scree mostly going down. Joun up with the path, in heading quickly I jog ankle on stone OW. F*$£%k. Fast rush hobble down to where the others were waiting with birthday cake. ... and sympathy :) and food & drink. Lovely to rest. Then we head on down ... ankle really okay after a while when strapped up. Wander round westport, Lucia heads off by bus, head home with Paul in car.
Friday night in Kilkenny we find a campsite ... new place. It's got a kettle & lectricity. Two australians are staying there too. We find a Jazz festival in the Pumphouse in Kilkenny that night.
On Saturday we take a look at Kilkenny castle in the morning and make our way to Clonmel via backroads. Beautiful area & weather ... we sped down a hill on a load of hedge clippingsa though and picked up 6 punctures between us. After we'd fixed 1/2 we'd hear another one ... then start cycling and another tyre would go flat .... . augh! :)
More nice cycling after that arrive in Clonmel and then the cycle UP to the campsite in the Comeraghs is a *&&^$%ing killer. Especially after such a long day. After setting camp and seeing the site + food? Colm collects us and we find two pubs in Clonmel.
On Sunday we cycle to Clonmel for breakfast and then we cycle around the back of the Comeraghs to the River Nier valley. We hike up there - a steepish climb up/down and very flat top area. A bit marshy ... then killer hill cycle home over mountain roads to campsite.
On Monday we cycle the backroads to Waterford. Just timed perfectly to catch the train. Cycled through nice park/private estate by river ... no swim though :)
